Abstract
This paper highlights and discusses the major contributions of Brian McLoughlin's 'second wave' work to the field of planning theory. While not often recognized as a planning 'theorist', McLoughlin did have a direct impact in the field. Unfortunately, these contributions have often been ignored by leading theorists, to the detriment of planning scholarship and education.
