Abstract
An experiment to study the sensitivity of performance of tandem III-V cells using a miniature fiber-optic photovoltaic concentrator was reported. It was found that the photovoltaic system had solar efficiencies above 30%, completely passive cooling, deliverable power density up to 104 suns and uniform and individualized cell illumination. It was observed from current-voltage curves that cell efficiency was a function of flux. It was also proposed that the efficiency of advanced cells at ∼104 suns was 20% lower than its peak efficiency at ∼300 suns for high-flux photovoltaic systems.
