Abstract
Diabetes in adolescence has both social, psychological and medical implications. A review of research into the incidence of type I IDDM (insulin dependent diabetes mellitus) in children and adolescents in various ethnic groups in Israel during the last 35 years is presented. The trend in the incidence of type I IDDM in Israel has shown a significant overall increase over the years, but Israel has also both low, intermediate and high incidence according to the various ethnic groups.
