Abstract
Amar Bhalla is one of the world's leading researchers in the field of materials science. He has published many hundreds of outstanding papers and many books in areas such as ferroelectrics, dielectrics, perovskites, ceramics, microwaves, phase transitions and others. One of his newest research areas is biomaterials for medical purposes. He and his colleague, Prof. Ruyan Guo and their laboratory at the University of Texas, San Antonio recently participated in the establishment of the Indo-U.S. Joint Center for Biomaterials for Health Care. His career has been an outstanding one, which is well attested to by the papers in this Special Issue, many written by his research collaborators. For me, he is a close friend and colleague. We have spent much time talking at conferences and in his former laboratory at Pennsylvania State University. He has given me suggestions for research projects and has supplied me with unusual experimental materials. It is always a pleasure to meet him, and I look forward to many more such occasions. Amar, congratulations on this Special Issue and your birthday!! I wish you many more years of fruitful research.
