Ugaritic Words in Syllabic Texts

A review of John Huehnergard's Ugaritic Vocabulary in Syllabic Transcription (Atlanta, GA: Scholars Press, 1987 [see listing in IRPL, this issue]) deems it a significant contribution to the understanding of such material in a clear & scholarly fashion. Words are collated & emended, particularly from polyglot vocabulary texts. It is noted that many of these readings can be disputed; therefore, Huehnergard's grammatical analysis may not give a complete or true picture of Ugaritic. Such a new work is also tested by its understanding of & attention to detail. Here, both general remarks & specific comments are made in an attempt to contribute to a better understanding of these important findings. Adapted from the source document
