Ultrafast Negative Diffusion in gold films

Abstract

Using ultrafast thermo-modulation microscopy, we show that the spatio-temporal heat diffusion in gold films has an initial ps-scale, electron-dominated diffusion, followed by an unexpected negative diffusion stage, and only then a much slower phonon-dominated diffusion.
