Abstract
We study the elastic matrix of a flux lattice in a layered superconductor with Josephson coupling between layers; the magnetic field is perpendicular to the layers. We perform a proper expansion of the energy with respect to displacements of the vortex positions and find a correction to previously known results which involves a ln(displacemt) factor. This term leads to softening of the lattice and enhances melting at low fields.
