Abstract

The authors have experimentally measured the rate constants of the exchange-resonance quenching of the phosphorescence of eosin (Kq) by ferricyanide, haemin and the haeme-containing proteins (cytochrome c, myoglobin, haemoglobin and leghaemoglobin). Analysis of the values (Kq) between eosin and cytochrome c helped to evaluate the steric factor for the haeme of cytochrome c.
