Abstract
Our national registry indicates that more than half of patients with AMI who develop cardiogenic shock do so before hospital admission. Preadmission shock and angioplasty or use of intra-aortic balloon counterpulsations were associated with improved survival. Our observation emphasizes the importance of preventing the development of cardiogenic shock after admission and of an aggressive revascularization strategy once cardiogenic shock develops.
