Abstract

This paper describes a new capacitor pre-charger that is simple and economical to implement. The operation of the new pre-charger in based on a unique 'floating integrator' circuit that is used to control the rate of voltage rise of the charged capacitors and by this, to control the capacitors' current. The paper includes an intuitive as well as theoretical analyses of the floating integrator and describes its use as a capacitor's pre-charger. Simulation and experimental results validate the theoretical predictions and demonstrate the operation of the proposed pre-charger.
