Abstract
The accuracy of visually observed wave parameters along the Mediterranean coasts of Israel is tested statistically, comparing these data to instrument recordings. Measures of variation are calculated and the reliability of the observers is defined. The validity of visually observed wave heights is very good as is that of sea state. Statistics indicate that the validity of visually observed wave periods is poor. (A)
