Abstract

The salvage excavation conducted on Danny Mass Street, Ramla, exposed several stone-lined tombs, some of which were covered by large ceramic vessels—a particular feature of Mamluk-period cemeteries previously documented in the coastal plain. This burial type probably points to the foreign origin of the interred, possibly a Turkman population that settled along the Israeli coast in the Mamluk period. This tomb type is discussed below in light of similar burials uncovered in a limited geographic area, between Naḥal Yarqon in the north and Naḥal Soreq in the south.
