Abstract

The vibrational analysis of the X2 (3/2)-X1 (1/2) system of BiO in the near infrared region, 6400-7700 cm-1, has been extended. Transitions in the Δv = - 1, 0, and + 1 sequences have been observed and assigned up to v = 6 in the upper state and no transitions have been observed with v′ > 6. The Δv = - 1 sequence is shown to form a head of heads. The upper state appears to be strongly perturbed, especially at v = 6.
