Abstract

Observations are reported on polypropylene/clay nanocomposites in tensile tests with various strain rates, relaxation tests at various strains, and creep tests with various stresses at room temperature. New constitutive equations are derived in viscoelasticity and viscoplasticity of nanocomposites. Adjustable parameters are found by fitting the experimental data. The stress-strain relations are applied to the analysis of creep rupture. It is demonstrated that reinforcement of polypropylene with 1 wt.% of nanoclay induces an increase in time to failure by an order of magnitude.
