Abstract
Optical properties (reflection and transmission) of multilayer grating structures are analyzed using the S-matrix propagation algorithm which is implemented with a visual tool. It includes a brief description of an S-matrix propagation algorithm for analyzing the scattering of a plane wave incident on multilayer structure, the refractive index in each layer being a periodic function of a lateral dimension in each layer plane. Visual C++ software tools are used for obtaining a user friendly visual recipe, which requires from the user only data about the structural dimension, and required optical properties. The C++ is used to feed these inputs to a Matlab-coded program. After the analysis the results are fed back visually. Examples of some of the screen frames showing the physical structure and the reflection and transmission simulated results for stepped layer grating structures are presented.
