Abstract

The interaction of a surface acoustic wave (SAW) with a two-dimensional electron gas in a periodic potential and subject to a homogeneous magnetic field is considered. We calculate the attenuation of the SAW and its velocity change and show that these quantities exhibit magneto-oscillations induced by commensurability of the cyclotron radius of the electrons with the potential modulation wavelength. Our calculations show that the observation of the effect is within experimental feasibility.
