Abstract

It is not difficult to recognize why the wh-phrase of a question (from now on the wh-phrase) might be thought of as the focus of the question. If, for example, the focus is thought of as being the non-presupposed constituent of the sentence, then the wh-phrase could be seen to qualify for this status.
