Abstract
It is no accident that Jewish-Israeli women are often seen as "loyal companions" to the "Zionist (male) pioneers" and not as "pioneers" themselves. Early legislative debates have had a lasting impact on the construction of the identity of Jewish-Israeli women, first and foremost, as mothers and wives, and not as equal individuals or citizens.
